Borg Cube Token
6 Destroyed Ship tokens
2 sets of colored Damage Counter tokens
Reroll Token
Other Information
Based On "Best of Both Worlds" Parts 1 & 2

Locutus and his Cube are advancing on Earth, uninterested in assimilating the fleets assembled to slow them. They have already massacred one fleet. Will yours fare any better?

Objectives[]

All Players: Deal as much damage to the Borg Cube Token as possible.

  • At the end of the time limit (one hour), the player who has inflicted the most damage on the Cube wins
  • Draws are resolved by rolling 5 Attack dice: the player with the most Battle StationsResults wins. Continue rolling until all ties are broken.

Battle Points: 2 for a Win or Bye, 1 for a Loss.

Skunking: In a tournament, if one player beats the others total damage by 20 or more, they gain an additional Battle Point.

This is a cooperative-competitive scenario. See "Special Rules" for more details.

Setup[]

  • Place the Borg Cube Token (hereinafter the "BCT") with its closest edge is exactly 8” from the E edge of the play area, and centered between the N and S edges of the play area. Each edge of the Cube should be parallel to the corresponding edge of the play area.
  • The players choose which will be the "red" and "blue" players, using damage tokens of the appropriate colors.
  • The players take turns placing the Destroyed Ship tokens (with the ship side face-up) anywhere in the play area, as long as they are more than 4" from any other Token (ship or Cube).
  • The starting area is anywhere within 4" of the West edge of the playing area. Players set up as normal.

Components[]

The Organized Play kit contained the following components:

One carboard Borg Cube Token, 5 and 3/16ths inches square (approx. 13cm).

BCT and ship

The Borg Cube Token and two of the wrecks

Six "destroyed ships" tokens (see "trivia" below for more). Though irregularly-shaped, they are all roughly 1" (2.54cm) by 2.5" (~6cm).

Damage and ships

The remaining wrecks and damage tokens

Sixteen "Damage Counter" tokens, eight each in red and blue. There are four "1", one each "x5", "x10", "x20". Note: this number of tokens is inadequate for experienced or fast players. As a work-around, you can use the appropriate-colored Shield tokens to represent "x50" damage counters

One "Reroll" token (awarded to the highest-ranked player from the previous OP event)

Special Rules[]

Allied Fleets:

  • Players’ ships are not allowed to attack each other and cannot use any abilities that would cause damage to an opposing ship’s Hull or Shields. Players may, however, use any abilities that affect another player’s Ship, Upgrade or Captain Cards as long as those abilities do not cause direct damage to the opposing ship’s Hull or Shields.
  • Text-based abilities that affect the BCT only apply to the ship to which they are deployed. Example: The BCT is attacking 4 ships. A player uses an ability to cancel an attack against 1 of his ships. Only the attack against that ship is cancelled. The other 3 attacks are still made.
  • While both players’ ships form an “Allied Fleet” against the Borg Cube Token, opposing players’ fleets are not considered “friendly” and are still treated separately in all other aspects (i.e. Fleet Builds, Fleet Points, Surviving Fleets, etc).
  • If a Borg ship is included in a player’s fleet, it is considered to be a rogue Borg ship, a part of the allied fleet, and must follow all the rules for players’ ships

Borg Cube Token:

  • The Borg Cube Token is considered an enemy ship, but cannot move or perform Actions. It can be attacked, but it cannot be destroyed. The BCT has an Agility of 0 (if it ever needs to roll defense dice, the opposing player rolls those dice).
  • During the Combat Phase of every round, the BCT will attack as follows:
    • The BCT always attacks last.
    • The BCT has a 360o firing arc and has an unlimited Range for its attacks.
      • If there are 5 or more ships in the play area, the BCT will fire at the 4 nearest ships with a 5-dice attack against each ship.
      • If there are only 4 ships left in the play area, the BCT will fire at the 3 nearest ships with a 6-dice attack against each ship.
      • If there are only 3 ships left in the play area, the BCT will fire at the 2 nearest ships with an 8-dice attack against each ship.
      • If there are only 2 ships left in the play area, the BCT will fire at the nearest ship with a 10-dice attack.
      • If there is only 1 ship is left in the play area, the BCT will fire at that ship with a 12-dice attack.
    • These attacks are considered to be made with a Primary Weapon and Range bonuses apply. A ship that is defending against an attack from the BCT treats an attack from beyond Range 3 as if it were at Range 3.
    • Whenever a player is defending against the BCT, the opposing player rolls the BCT’s attack dice.

Damaging the Cube

  • Instead or recording damage with cards as normal, for each uncancelled Hitresult, the attacking player places 1 of his Damage Tokens directly on the BCT.
  • The first uncancelled Critical hit result in each attack inflicts 2 Damage Tokens. Aany additional critical hits deal one damage.
  • You may (nay, must..) exchange tokens on the BCT as needed to correctly display the total damage.

Coordinated Attack

  • At the end of the Combat phase, if all of one player's remaining ships attacked the BCT that turn, add 1 Damage Token to the BCT for each ship that scored at least one damaging hit on the BCT.

Debris Tokens

  • Player ships treat the Debris Tokens as Obstacles
  • If the BCT's attack against a ship is Obstructed by a Debris token, the wrecked ship is instead destroyed and removed from the play area. The defending ship takes no damage from that attack.

Trivia[]

The wrecked ship tokens are taken from screen captures of "Best of Both Worlds". They are, from top to bottom of the images above:

  • An unknown Nebula-Class ship (damaged saucer)
  • USS Buran, a Challenger-class ship (AKA the "lollipop").
  • The Nebula-class ship originally designated as USS Melbourne (the events of "Emissary" later established the Melbourne as an Excelsior-class ship) (heavy damage: this is the thinnest of the counters)
  • USS Kyushu, a New Orleans-class light cruiser (Mostly intact saucer, 2 engines, small pods on rear of saucer)
  • USS Princeton, a Niagara-class cruiser (Three-engined ship, missing the starboard nacelle and half the saucer)
  • USS Firebrand, a Freedon-class ship (Large, irregular counter, with only an neck and a single engine)
